The Slide Doctor, LLC has been setting up the fastest trombone slides for the world’s greatest trombone players for many years. Dr. John Upchurch started repairing slides for his students while at Potsdam in New York out of necessity for quick repair turn-around times. This has become known as a ‘slide setup’. He continued these repairs as he moved back to Georgia. In January 2000, John created the business known as the Slide Doctor, LLC. The Slide Doctor name was a suggestion from Buddy Baker. Moving forward, John pioneered the use of polymers to seal the inside of the outer tubes and established the Slide Doctor, LLC as one of the premier trombone slide repair services offering quality repairs at very competitive prices.

In 2007, Ray Splawn started working as an apprentice with John Upchurch. During this time, John and Ray developed both a wonderful business relationship as well as a long lasting friendship. Over 5+ years, John has shared his techniques and secrets for trombone slide repair. Then as John became ready to retire and move forward in the next stage of his life, the business transferred to Ray in January 2011. John continues to serve in an advisory capacity and has actively participated in the creation and marketing of Great Slide products. Today, Ray continues the tradition of providing lightning fast slides to many of the world’s greatest trombone players.
